After a great run, the Winning the Internet blog has been retired. However, you can still keep in touch with New Media Mentors here.
Friday Linx is a recurring feature on our blog. We’re aiming to bring you a collection of links worth a read and cute cat video to ease you into the weekend. Below you’ll find items on measuring pins to Pinterest from your site, Kony 2012, the new Facebook Causes, and conducting a professional photo shoot on the cheap.
But first, my favorite cat video of all time:
Onto the links!
Sick of hearing about Pinterest? At Netroots Foundation we’ve put a “boratorium” on the subject. If anyone mentions it, they have to donate $5 to the cause of their choice! However, this post is worth breaking the boratorium. If you’re experimenting with Pinterest, Lunametrics describes how to use Google Analytics to track pins from your site.
Mashable declared the Kony 2012 video the most viral video in history. While the video and organization that released it are now surrounded in controversy, this is still quite a feat for a nonprofit organization. (In case you missed it, here’s our take on the topic.)
Remember Facebook Causes? It’s now called Causes, and the company recently released a new version of the tool that includes a pretty robust action center. It’s definitely worth a look if you’re trying to find a way to get online cheaply.
Finally, if you’re looking for cheap but professional looking photos to use on your website and elsewhere, Marta Lindsey’s got two guest posts on Kivi’s blog that give detailed, actionable tips for conducting your own photo shoot. Both posts are great: Part 1, Part 2.
